We’re delighted to share an update from one of our Surrey Gardens Trust Schools Award recipients - Worplesdon Primary School near Guildford.
With support from our Schools Award grant, an overgrown area outside four classrooms has been transformed from a neglected patch of weeds and brambles into a productive and welcoming school garden.
Working together with parents, local residents and the local gardening club, the school community has created new planted areas that will support learning linked to the Year 3 science curriculum in particular, while also giving other children opportunities to care for and enjoy the space every day.
With plenty of space to share, around 90 Year 3 pupils will benefit directly from the garden, with Year 2 pupils also helping to grow and study plants. Situated alongside a busy pathway, the new garden will also be enjoyed by all the pupils as they move around the school and during breaks when they can take responsibility for watering their plants.
We especially loved seeing the children helping to plant up the new planters and reading their wonderful thank you notes.
A huge congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this project to life – something that will really benefit the children!
